Pistachio products sold by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc, California are being investigated by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for Salmonella contamination.
The company has halted distribution of processed pistachios and is planning to recall more than 1 million pounds of its products.
Multiple strains of Salmonella are included. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in elderly people, young children and those with weakened immune systems.
The company has not received any reports of illness connected to the recalled pistachios. At this time it is not known whether any of the strains found in the recalled products are linked to an outbreak.
